Plavba na člne je jednou z najväčších atrakcii Domice.
Túto nádobu v Domici zabudol vo výklenku človek pred 6000 rokmi.
Mreža rozdeľujúca jaskynný systém na dve časti je už odstránená.
<>Exceptional in many aspects, Domica is the most significant cave of the Slovak Karst (Slovenský kras). Its unique forms of sinter decoration are dominated by seepage dripstones and cascade stalagmites, the so-called pagodas. Moreover, Domica is our most important biospeleology locality. In 1995, it was entered in the UNESCO World Heritage list, together with other caves of the Slovak and Aggtelek Karst. Since 2001, it has been listed in the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance. The archaeological significance of the cave containing cave paintings is far beyond regional. Domica was a sanctuary to our ancestors, and should be so to us, too.
The discovery of Domica was expected well before 1926. Then, the cave of Baradla had already been known in Hungary that continued further to the Slovak territory, where the cave of Čertova diera and the abyss of Stará Domica were known. These expectations were materialised by Ján Majko and his partners on 3 October 1926, when they found a continuation at the bottom of Stará Domica. The cave of Domica was thus discovered. The assumed connection with Čertova diera was discovered by Ján Majko in 1929 and the connection of Domica and Baradla was physically achieved by Vojtech Benický in 1932, getting through the semi-siphons at the Hungarian side. The cave was open to the public in 1932, with opening works managed by Vojtech Benický.
The cave of Domica is located on the south-western edge of the Silická planina plateau along the borderline with the non-karst area of the Bodvianska pahorkatina uplands. It was created in the light-coloured Wetterstein limestone by the corrosive and erosive activity of the underground flows of the Styx River, the stream of Domický potok and other tributaries from the non-karst part of the cave basin. The diverse forms of geological relief and the three evolution levels, bottom one of which has been silted up with gravel, give evidence of cave's poly-phase evolution in geological periods. Together with Čertová diera, the cave is 5,358 m long, which is a little less than one quarter of the whole cave system. The sightseeing tour takes 1,180 m, 150 m of which visitors pass on boats.
Domica is abundant with seepage dripstones. Moreover, it is very rare to see several stegamites and sinter drums in a small surface. There are also a vast number of many and different gravitation sinter forms as well as corallites. Most likely, the underground sanctuary in the so-called Dome of Mysteries used to serve as a central cult area of the people of the Bukovohorská (Bükk) culture. On the walls of Sacred Passage, unique drawings were found that show the symbols of fertile power. The shape of this passage evokes strong emotions even in the present-day people.
